Garhi Khuda Bakhsh:Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari demanded that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif immediately withdraw the controversial canal construction projects on the Indus River.
Bilawal was addressing a grand public gathering in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh on the occasion of the 46th death anniversary of ex- premier Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
He warned the federal government that no unilateral decision harming the Federation will be tolerated.
Reassuring his party’s members of Parliament, he declared that if the Pakistan Peoples Party is not consulted on the Annual Development Plan for the federation and all provinces, they will not vote in favor of the federal budget.
Chairman PPP paid glowing tribute to the Pride of Asia and Leader of the People, shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.
“We take pride in Shaheed Bhutto’s struggle and achievements.”
He highlighted Bhutto’s legacy of presenting Pakistan’s first unanimous Constitution, his commitment to democracy, rights for workers and farmers, public welfare, and initiating Pakistan’s nuclear program.
Bilawal emphasised that Quaid-e-Awam’s vision was profoundly people-centric.
The PPP chairman Bilawal revealed that during his tenure as Foreign Minister, he secured international funding for the Peoples Housing Project by persuading the world that the damage caused by climate change in Pakistan was not Pakistan’s fault but that of the global community.
He expressed gratitude to both the international community and the federal government for their support of this historic initiative.
He recalled that he, as Foreign Minister, advocated for Pakistan on climate change and the unjust distribution of water on global forums.
He emphasised to the world the need to save the Indus River and urged international partners to support Pakistan in protecting it.
He thanked the global community for accepting this plea and offering both financial and technical assistance for the Indus Basin.
Bilawal declared that India has long been stealing Pakistan’s water, and that he personally stood up to India in defending Pakistan’s coastal rights at the international level.
He pointed out that domestically too, PPP took initiatives, including introducing constitutional amendments—such as incorporating environmental protection in the Constitution, which was previously absent.
He said those promoting hatred will be answered by the PPP.
He described the PPP’s Peoples Housing project for flood victims as historic: “Just as the Leader of the People gave land ownership to the people, today I am giving homes and land ownership to two million families.”
