ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has called on the federal government to appeal international organizations to provide assistance to flood victims.
As per detail, PPP Chairman said in a message on the social networking website, that there is no justification for depriving millions of affected Pakistanis of this assistance by not appealing for international assistance. Therefore, we demand from the government to appeal for international assistance immediately, as the federal government’s delay in appealing for international assistance under the United Nations system is incomprehensible.
According to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, appealing for international assistance is a common practice worldwide during disasters of this magnitude and countries around the world appeal to the international community for help during the first 72 hours of such natural disasters, as was done during the 2022 floods when he was the foreign minister and Pakistan had previously appealed for international assistance during the 2010 floods and the 2005 earthquake too.
Bilawal Bhutto said that they welcome the declaration of environmental and agricultural emergency by the federal government on the demand of the PPP, but it is regrettable that the government has not yet been able to announce any relief under the Benazir Income Support Program for the affected districts of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and especially South Punjab.
He clarified that the PPP will present resolutions in all provincial assemblies, the National Assembly, and the Senate for the flood victims and also hoped that the federal government will also fully support them in their efforts to restore the agriculture sector, as the agriculture sector has been the most affected by the floods.
