LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered its Registrar’s Office to revisit a petition questioning the eligibility of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to serve as a Member of the National Assembly, following the resolution of initial procedural concerns.
On Wednesday, Justice Khalid Ishaq instructed the Registrar to re-evaluate the petition filed by Ashba Kamran after addressing procedural objections.
The petitioner claims that, Bilawal’s simultaneous roles in two political entities—PPP and Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP)—may breach legal provisions.
The petition alleges that Bilawal, as chairman of the PPP, which bears the electoral symbol “sword,” and his election as MNA in 2018 and 2024 representing PPPP, which uses the “arrow” symbol, creates a legal conflict.
Ashba Kamran asserts that, since both organizations are separately registered with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), holding dual membership violates Section 203(3) of the Elections Act, 2017, and constitutional mandates.
