Blasphemous Content: Justice Siddiqui resumes hearing

ISLAMABAD: Justice Shaukat Aziz nSiddiqui has resumed the hearing of case pertaining to blasphemous content on social media websites at the Islamabad High Court.

SSP Sajid Kiyani, Secretary Interior, and Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority are present in the court. A representative of the civil society is also present.

The petitioner informed the court that the civil society registered a case at I-9 police station on January 15. He also read out the text of the registered case.

At the start of the hearing today Justice Siddiqui said that it should be understood that what is Article 19, what is freedom of expression and what are the restrictions on its wrongful use.

Making amendments in the constitution is not journalists’ job it is the work of law making institutions, Justice Siddiqui continued requesting the religious scholars and journalists not to launch any campaign in his favor on the social media.

On the last hearing on March 9 cases against unknown persons for promoting blasphemous content on social media are being registered at Ramna police station here on the order of Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of Islamabad High Court. The case was registered by the SHO of the said police station Irshad Abro.

On that day the court also the court ordered Secretary Interior to send all the blasphemous content to the prime minister. If the orders of this court remain unimplemenetd the court would call the prime minister, Justice Siddiqui had also said.

Indecency, nudity, and pornography has flooded the media, PTA should work to stop it, Justice Siddiqui had said adding that his life is ever ready for Allah Subhanahu Ta’ala and his last Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him).
