Border Fencing Aims Stopping Terrorists, Clarifies DG ISPR

ISLAMABAD: Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG-ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor clarified that initiation of fencing along Pakistan-Afghanistan border was aimed to stop movement of terrorists.

Major General Asif Ghafoor was exclusively talking to AbbTakk News programme ‘Tonight With Fareeha’. He said that there was not a specific time-frame for continuation of journey of prosperity.

The military spokesperson said that 80 per cent of border fencing along Pakistan Afghanistan bordering areas was completely so far. Ghafoor clarified that the fencing did not mean distribution of two countries.

He said people can continue cross border movement following legal procedures while construction of roads in the tribal agency made it possible to supply local products to Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

DG ISPR termed restoration of tribal people in North Waziristan as biggest challenge. He detailed that Pakistan Army has constructed roads, schools and markets in the agency while its control will be handed over to civil administration.

The DG ISPR organized a briefing session for foreign and local journalists in Ghulam Khan area of North Waziristan on January 18. Ghafoor said that the border fencing project costing Rs70 billion will be completed by 2020 which include installation of monitoring equipments and establishment of check posts in order to stop illegal movement along border.
