Rio di Jnneiro: The BRICS Nations expressed grave concern over the ongoing violence in Gaza, calling for an immediate ceasefire b and the establishment of lasting peace through a fair and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue.
The declaration from the 17th BRICS Summit, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has been officially released, with member states condemning recent United States and Israeli strikes on Iran.
The joint statement was issued by member countries — Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia — and addressed a wide range of global issues, including trade, financial reforms, and the situation in the Middle East.
The declaration unequivocally recognised Gaza as an integral part of the State of Palestine and reaffirmed support for a two-state solution based on international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
In a strongly worded condemnation, the bloc denounced the recent airstrikes carried out by the United States and Israel on Iranian territory, describing them as violations of international law and a threat to regional stability.
On economic matters, the leaders criticised the United States for imposing unilateral trade tariffs, arguing that such actions undermine the multilateral trading system and global trade norms.
They also reiterated the urgent need to reform international financial institutions, particularly the International Monetary Fund (IMF), stating that the current quota and voting system fails to reflect the realities of the modern global economy.
