WEB DESK: Gopichand Parmanand Hinduja, chairman of the Hinduja Group and one of Britain’s wealthiest individuals, has passed away at the age of 85 in London.
Widely recognized as GP Hinduja, he held the title of the richest person in the United Kingdom for seven consecutive years, as listed by The Sunday Times Rich List.
Born in India in 1940, he spearheaded one of the world’s most diverse family conglomerates, with interests spanning sectors such as banking, automotive, energy, and technology.
An alumnus of Mumbai’s Jai Hind College (1959), Hinduja earned honorary doctorates as well—a Doctor of Law from the University of Westminster and a Doctorate of Economics from Richmond College, London.
He assumed the role of chairman of the Hinduja Group in 2023, succeeding his elder brother Srichand Hinduja, who had been battling dementia.
Alongside his brothers, he played a pivotal role in growing the family enterprise. Originating as a trading business established by their father, Parmanand Hinduja, in 1914, it evolved into a global multi-billion-dollar conglomerate under their leadership.
