British High Commission replies to Pakistan’s protest letter

LONDON: The British High Commission has formally responded to Pakistan’s protest letter addressed to the acting British High Commissioner, reaffirming the autonomy of the United Kingdom’s law enforcement agencies.

A spokesperson for the High Commission stated that British police and prosecutors function independently from the government and are not subject to political influence. They emphasized that law enforcement decisions are made solely by relevant UK authorities in accordance with national laws.

The statement further clarified that if a foreign government suspects a crime in the UK, it should provide all pertinent evidence to its designated UK police liaison officer. Any material that may violate UK law will be examined by the police, potentially leading to a criminal investigation.

This response highlights the UK’s firm stance on maintaining the separation between government and law enforcement institutions and reiterates the proper legal channels for foreign governments to raise concerns or submit evidence.
