Cardinal Robert Prevost elected new Pope of the Catholic Church

VATICAN CITY: Cardinal Robert Prevost has been elected as the new Pope of the Catholic Church.

The new Pope was chosen after at least four rounds of voting. Robert Prevost becomes the first American Pope in history and will be known as Pope Leo XIV. Robert Prevost was made a Cardinal in 2023. Prior to that, he served as a bishop in Peru from 2015 to 2023.

Following the resignation of Pope Francis last month, 69-year-old Robert Prevost has become the 267th Pope of the Catholic Church. U.S. President Donald Trump congratulated Robert Prevost, saying he is proud to learn that he is the first American Pope. Trump also expressed his desire to meet Pope Leo.
