Islamabad: The Council of Common Interests (CCI) 52nd meeting in chair of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has decided to withdraw from the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) decision to construct canals on the river Indus.
The declaration issued after conclusion of the meeting apprised that the ECNEC February 7 regarding construction of canals on the river Indua has been withdrawn.
The canals project will not be initiated without the willingness of the provinces, the declaration adds.
The declaration furthered that no any project will be started without the approval of the CCI.
The huddle also decided to form a committee comprising representatives from the federal government and provincial governments.
The eight-member council includes the chief ministers of all four provinces. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, and federal minister Ameer Muqam are also part of the council.
A total of 25 individuals participated in the CCI meeting on special invitation. The meeting was summoned to deliberate on a six-point agenda.
The CCI reviewed the Sindh government’s agenda item concerning the proposal for new canal projects.
Besides that the CCI meeting condemned the India’s unilateral, illegal and irresponsible measures taken after the Pahalgam attack.
The CCI expressive of national sentiments have sent a message of unity and solidarity for entire nation and the country in face of any aggression by India.
