ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority has successfully completed the primary construction of the T-Chowk Flyover significantly ahead of schedule, finalizing the project in just 90 days almost two months earlier than the initial deadline.
Spanning 1.1 kilometers and constructed at a cost of Rs. 1.4 billion, the flyover is situated at the junction of GT Road and Islamabad Expressway. Designed to streamline traffic flow from Lahore, its completion was originally set for February 19 under the approved PC-I, but both the CDA and the construction firm managed to deliver the core structure well in advance.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the project by laying its foundation stone on September 12. According to CDA officials, the flyover is now structurally complete and ready for opening, with only minor finishing touches left to be carried out.
The project’s cost saw an increase of up to 15 percent due to the addition of an extra lane at grade level and the construction of new U-turns aimed at improving traffic management. Officials clarified that procurement rules permit adjustments in scope during ongoing projects when necessary to benefit road users.
In parallel, construction of the Shaheen Chowk underpass is progressing swiftly. Located at the intersection of Ninth Avenue and Khayaban-i-Iqbal, this project also experienced a 15 percent rise in costs and is approaching completion ahead of its planned April deadline.
