ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has intensified its anti-encroachment and building control operation along the eastern side of Islamabad Expressway, targeting unauthorised construction and commercial activities.
The drive is being carried out by the CDA’s Building Control Section in coordination with the Enforcement Directorate and District Administration as part of efforts to regulate development along the major corridor and keep the capital free of encroachments.
According to the CDA, enforcement action has been initiated against 377 structures, including 281 commercial properties, identified for various violations of building and land-use regulations.
The authority said around Rs3 billion is recoverable in land conversion charges, unauthorised construction and violations involving setbacks, floor area ratio (FAR) and covered area.
During an earlier enforcement campaign, the CDA recovered approximately Rs720 million, while around Rs100 million has been collected so far during the latest operation.
More than 140 structures have already been proceeded against under the relevant building control regulations. The operation covers the area stretching from Soan Dehati to Iqbal Town, Khanna Pull and Koral Bridge towards Koral/Gulberg Greens.
The CDA said 124 structures between Soan and Khanna Pull have been identified and marked for demolition, with demolition work already underway.
The authority has also warned owners of sealed premises that their properties will remain closed until the relevant violations are removed and all required legal and regularisation procedures are completed, subject to approval from the competent authority.
The CDA said no sealed property would be permitted to resume activities in breach of applicable laws and regulations.
The operation is being conducted under the direction of Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, with the authority saying the measures are aimed at ensuring regulated land use, curbing unauthorised development and maintaining planned growth along Islamabad’s major road networks.
The CDA reiterated that enforcement against encroachments and building control violations would continue across the capital in accordance with the law.
