CDF Munir, Marco Rubio hold high-level talks over global, regional security in Germany

WEB DESK: During his official visit to Germany from February 12 to 14, Field Marshal, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Syed Asim Munir engaged in high-level discussions on regional and global security at the 62nd Munich Security Conference.

On the sidelines of the conference, the army chief met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Their talks focused on matters of mutual concern, including shifting global security dynamics and cooperation in counterterrorism efforts, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

In addition to his meeting with the US secretary of state, Field Marshal Munir held a series of engagements with German leadership. He called on Alexander Dobrindt, Federal Minister of the Interior of the Federal Republic of Germany; Günter Sautter, Foreign Policy and Security Policy Advisor to the German Chancellor; and General Carsten Breuer, Chief of Defence of the Federal Armed Forces.

Discussions with German officials centered on contemporary security challenges, strengthening bilateral defence collaboration, and advancing global peace through both bilateral and multilateral dialogue.

The army chief also met Admiral Renato Rodrigues de Aguiar Freire, Chief of the Joint Staff of the Brazilian Armed Forces, where both sides explored avenues for enhanced military cooperation.

Additionally, General Rodolph Haykal, Commander of the Armed Forces of Lebanon, held talks with Field Marshal Munir. Their interaction covered the prevailing regional and international security environment and measures to further strengthen defence ties.

The visit underscored Pakistan’s continued diplomatic and military engagement with key international partners on security and counterterrorism cooperation.
