RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Field Marshal Asim Munir, on Wednesday committed to counteracting attempts by Indian-supported proxies aiming to foment unrest and hinder progress in Balochistan.
Speaking at the 18th National Workshop on Balochistan held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, Field Marshal Munir assured that such hostile “inimical designs” will be thwarted through decisive action by security agencies.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued a statement noting that the CDF expressed admiration for the resilience and patriotism demonstrated by the people of Balochistan. He emphasized the province’s critical role in Pakistan’s overall prosperity and growth.
He commended the extensive initiatives undertaken by both federal and provincial authorities, highlighting a focus on people-centered development strategies aimed at improving socio-economic conditions and harnessing Balochistan’s vast economic potential for the benefit of its residents. Recognizing the vital contribution of civil society in countering propaganda, he underscored its importance in fostering sustainable progress in the region.
The CDF also called for the rejection of vested political interests that could hinder the province’s long-term development, stressing that Balochistan’s future should be guided by inclusive prosperity for all its inhabitants. Pakistan’s dedication to regional peace and security, he warned that any infringement of Pakistan’s territorial integrity—whether direct or indirect would be met with a firm, resolute response.
The armed forces remain steadfast in their commitment to safeguarding the lives and well-being of Pakistani citizens, he added.
The session wrapped up with an open, interactive dialogue, during which the COAS and CDF addressed questions from participants and shared further insights into ongoing efforts to enhance Balochistan’s stability and development.
Both Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP)bordering Afghanistan faced significant terrorist activity throughout 2025.
Earlier this month, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti reported that the province experienced 900 terror incidents resulting in 280 civilian deaths, 205 security personnel casualties, and six officers lost, two of whom were from Balochistan. He also stated that security forces had carried out numerous intelligence-based operations (IBOs), killing 706 terrorists attempting to infiltrate from Afghanistan with plans to carry out attacks.
However, he clarified that no military operations were ongoing in Balochistan; only targeted IBOs were being conducted to counter terrorism.
