Chairman NAB Excuses From Appearing Before NA’s Standing Committee

Islamabad(May  16, 2018): Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal has asked to be excused from appearing before the National Assembly’s standing committee for Law and Justice over the money laundering probe against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

The NAB chief had been ordered to appear before the committee today, in person, and give a briefing on the probe into allegations of money laundering against the deposed prime minister.

Justice (retd) Iqbal shared that he received the notice for the appearance in the morning, adding that he has meetings planned for the day and requested the committee to set an appropriate time for his appearance.  Chairman NAB to Appear Before NA’s Standing Committee TodayYesterday,  the National Assembly’s Standing committee on Law and Justice had summoned the chairman of National Accountability Bureau Justice Retired Javed Iqbal today for initiating a probe into allegations of money laundering against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

National Assembly’s standing committee meeting was presided by chairman Chaudry Ashraff, it was decided in meeting to summon NAB chairman and review the allegations against Nawaz Sharif.

NAB Chairman Javed Iqbal was ordered to appear before the committee today, in person, brief on the probe into allegations of money laundering against Nawaz Sharif.

PML-N MNA Rana Hayat submitted a point of order during the National Assembly Committee meeting,

The committee also ordered the NAB chief to be accompanied by officers involved in the probe.

It is pertinent to mention that On May 8, taking notice of a misleading newspaper article based on a ‘flawed’ report of the World Bank, the anti-corruption watchdog started verification whether Sharif was involved in sending $4.9 billion to India.
