Chinese President urges caution to avoid dangerous retaliation cycle after trump meeting

BEIJING: Chinese President Xi Jinping has advised both China and the United States not to fall into a dangerous cycle of retaliation.

According to international media reports, during a discussion following his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, Xi Jinping stated that China’s economy is like an ocean capable of handling various risks and challenges. He emphasized that China does not aim to challenge or replace any country and is focused on improving its own work.

He said that dialogue is better than confrontation, and overall, China-U.S. relations remain stable. Both teams should continue follow-up discussions, and trade and economic cooperation should be the cornerstone of expanding relations between the two nations.

President Xi further highlighted that trade relations should be based on friendship, urging both countries to prioritize long-term cooperation interests and avoid falling into a cycle of retaliation.

Xi Jinping mentioned that China and U.S. economic and trade teams held detailed discussions and agreed on resolving issues. Both sides also expressed positive cooperation in stopping illegal immigration, and they are committed to combating telecom fraud, AI-related challenges, and money laundering.

Meanwhile, Chinese state media reported that the U.S. and Chinese presidents agreed to strengthen cooperation in energy and trade sectors and to maintain ongoing dialogue.
