Chinese scientists achieve breakthrough in converting carbon dioxide into Jet fuel

WEB DESK: Chinese scientists have made significant progress in developing a new technology that can convert atmospheric pollutants into aviation fuel. According to Chinese media reports, researchers at the Shanghai Advanced Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences have advanced in converting carbon dioxide (CO2) into fuel suitable for aircraft.

The experts plan to scale this technology from laboratory experiments to large-scale applications. Their research involves directly transforming CO2 into hydrocarbons, which are essential components of jet fuel. During this process, the gas is combined with water to produce a liquid fuel.

This breakthrough comes at a time when global fuel prices are soaring, especially amid disruptions caused by conflicts such as the Iran-U.S. tensions, which have impacted fuel supplies. The results of this research have been published in the journal ACS Catalysis.

Chinese scientists have also indicated that they have overcome key technical challenges that previously hindered the direct conversion of CO2 into hydrocarbons suitable for fuel use. If successful in commercializing this technology, it could reduce dependence on traditional fuel sources and enable recycling of CO2, contributing to both environmental sustainability and energy security.
