ISLAMABAD: The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has rejected the proposed bill seeking to ban child marriage.

According to an official statement from the council, several provisions of the bill, including defining marriage under the age of 18 as sexual abuse and introducing corresponding punishments have been deemed un-Islamic.

The CII meeting was held under the chairmanship of Allama Dr. Raghib Naeemi, who stated that setting a minimum legal age for marriage is contrary to Islamic principles.

The council also rejected the proposal to make pre-marital thalassemia testing mandatory, recommending instead that the test remain optional. It emphasized the need to raise public awareness about the importance of such health measures.

In addition, the Council extended congratulations to the government and Pakistan Armed Forces on their victory in what was termed a “battle of truth.” Chairman Dr. Raghib Naeemi commended the armed forces for their excellent strategic response to enemy aggression.
