CJP Hears Balochistan Water Shortage Case

Islamabad (May 09, 2018): Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar has said on Wednesday that those responsible for the terrible state of Balochistan will not be spared. 

According to the details, former chief ministers Abdul Malik Baloch and Sanaullah Zehri appeared in court as the Supreme Court began hearing the suo motu case related to the shortage of water in the province.

When the court highlighted the poor state of schools in the province, Malik Baloch said they require Rs62 billion to make new schools whereas the province’s total budget is Rs42 billion.

“Everyone says they do not have funds,” the chief justice lamented.

Malik Baloch in his response said that after assuming power in 2013, the government resolved to improve the law and order situation which was at its worst at the time.Chief Justice Nisar inquired whether the people of Balochistan are politically empowered to run their own affairs.

Baloch added that the province has never had impartial elections.

Taking the stand, Zehri said the security situation improved in their tenure.

The court then summoned the inspector generals of the Frontier Corps’ south and north divisions at the next hearing in Quetta.

Earlier today, A three-member bench of Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice, heard the suo motu notice case against the imposition of undue taxes on petroleum products.

“What sort of tax is applicable on the petroleum products? What is their price in international market and in Pakistan?” inquired Justice Ijazul Ahsan.

The additional attorney general told that the prices are lesser in Pakistan than the region. “Don’t compare the prices with India. Do we have any competition with India in IT sector?” said the CJP.Yesterday, Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar took the notice of continuous increase in the price of petroleum products particularly raise in taxes.
