CJP To Hear Public Welfare Cases Today In Lahore Registry

Islamabad (April 22, 2018): A divisional bench headed by Chief justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar would conduct hearing into the public welfare cases on Sunday despite being a holiday. 

The cases that chief justice would be hearing included suo moto into allotment of Punjab University land to Punjab government, recruitment process of doctors and lack of appointments of judges into the lower judiciary.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Saturday suspended Vice Chancellor Punjab University  Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zakria Zakar for allotting a varsity land to the provincial government for construction of an electricity grid station.

A divisional bench headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar along with Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan made this decison during a hearing into a suo moto over allocation of 80 canal land of the Punjab University to the provincial government for construction of an electricity grid station.

Furthermore in another case yesterday, the Chief Justice took notice of appointment of the former principal secretary of the Punjab chief minister Tauqir Shah as Pakistan’s Ambassador to World Trade Organization in Geneva.

The chief justice, who was hearing a suo moto case over abroad appointment of Shehbaz Sharif’s principal secretary, also summoned Tauqir Shah in next hearing of the court.

Moreover, during his address at a ceremony on Iqbal Day a day before, Saqib Nisar remarked that only democracy can prevail in Pakistan and there is no room for martial law in either Constitution or anyone’s minds.Reiterating his earlier claims, he said that he will step down if democracy ceases to exist in Pakistan.

He further said that Pakistan has been a result of continuous struggle and countless sacrifices. “We didn’t get Pakistan as charity or gift.”

“Quaid-e-Azam only envisaged democracy in Pakistan,” he said and added that people in Pakistan are not grateful towards their homeland.
