LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has called for urgency in the implementation of the Model Villages Project, directing officials to set a firm deadline for its completion.
She made the remarks while presiding over a special review meeting focused on three major initiatives: Model Villages, Clean Punjab, and Waste-to-Value.Highlighting the importance of aligning development efforts with the needs of the public, CM Maryam emphasized that the priorities of the Model Villages scheme must be shaped by what communities actually require.
The meeting assessed progress on the ambitious plan to upgrade 1,200 villages across Punjab into fully serviced, sustainable communities. Each village under the scheme is expected to feature uninterrupted access to clean drinking water, a modern sewage system, and fully functional waste treatment facilities.
Additional infrastructure improvements will include paved streets, repaired roads, children’s recreational areas, organized tree planting drives, proper house numbering, and the installation of directional and informational signboards.
CM Maryam reiterated that the project aims not only to improve rural infrastructure but also to enhance the quality of life in villages, making them cleaner, greener, and more livable for residents. She stressed that timely execution is essential and asked officials to finalize timelines and expedite implementation.
