LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif was awarded the UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour on World Habitat Day in Muscat, Oman. This accolade highlights the province’s ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ housing project as a leading example of affordable housing initiatives.
Celebrated as a milestone achievement, the award acknowledges Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s transformative work in the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” program. Launched on August 21, 2024, this initiative aims to provide affordable homes and apartments to qualified residents throughout Punjab over four and a half years. Globally recognized, this project has brought the Chief Minister to the forefront of international acclaim.
Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb described it as a significant moment of pride for the nation, stating on X that it’s much more than an award; it’s a testament to the Chief Minister’s vision and commitment to ensuring secure housing, dignity, and hope for ordinary families. According to her, over 200,000 homes have already been delivered, laying a foundation of security and opportunity for future generations.
She further expressed personal pride in seeing Punjab’s achievements celebrated globally, commending the Chief Minister for providing not just homes, but also hope and a promising future for the province’s people. Praise was also extended to Housing Minister Bilal Yaseen for his dedicated implementation of the project.
The program is specifically designed to support low-income individuals currently residing in rented or informal settlements, helping them to secure their own homes, as detailed by the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” website.
