LAHORE: The Punjab government has planned to establish the largest shrimp farm in the province.
As per detail, Senior Punjab Minister Maryam Aurangzeb during a meeting with a delegation from the Fisheries Farms Associations in Lahore today said over 100 tons capacity shrimp farming will be carry out on 1,000 acres of land.
In the first phase, shrimp aquaculture will be introduce on 100,000 acres of uncultivable land in a selected district while 10 shrimp farms on 10,000 acres each will be establish on barren lands in the province. Local investors will be provide free land for shrimp farming for a specified period and after the success of the pilot phase, the shrimp farming project will be expand. Meanwhile, a proposal was also being assess to provide loans in easy installments to small farmers for shrimp farming up to one kanal area.
