KARACHI: Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah convened a high-level meeting on Monday to review arrangements for managing potential rain-related emergencies in the city.
During the session, officials briefed the chief minister on the forecast of upcoming rainfall in Karachi starting from tonight. Mayor Murtaza Wahab reported that efforts are underway to enhance drainage capacity at critical points across 44 nullahs within the city. Additionally, work is ongoing to clear approximately 150 drains to prevent waterlogging.
The mayor also informed that 120 suction vehicles have been mobilized to evacuate rainwater from low-lying areas. The city administration is coordinating with the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to secure necessary machinery and resources.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah instructed traffic police to ensure efficient traffic management during heavy rains and directed all municipal agencies and provincial authorities to remain vigilant and prepared.
Expressing satisfaction with recent rainfall, Shah noted that Thar has received abundant rain this season, resulting in full dams across the region. He emphasized the importance of stored water for the residents of Thar Parkar.
