RAWALPINDI: Pakistan and Tajikistan on Friday reiterated their resolve to further bolster defence and security cooperation, with both sides agreeing to expand military-to-military engagement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.
According to the military’s media wing, Tajikistan’s Minister of Defence, Colonel General Sobirzoda Emomali Abdulrahim, met Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at the General Headquarters (GHQ).
The two leaders discussed regional security dynamics, bilateral defence collaboration, and areas of mutual strategic interest.
ISPR stated that both sides expressed a strong commitment to enhancing cooperation, especially in counter-terrorism, training, and regional peace efforts.
The Tajik defence minister commended the professionalism of the Pakistan Army and its role in fostering stability across the region.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s desire for strengthened defence ties, the COAS underscored the need for collective approaches to regional peace and prosperity.
The meeting came on the heels of the successful completion of the Pakistan–Tajikistan joint counter-terrorism exercise “Dosti-II,” held from 4–9 August 2025 at Fakhrobod Base, Tajikistan.
The exercise featured two combat teams from Pakistan Army’s Light Commando Battalion and four teams from the Tajik Special Forces. ISPR reported that all training objectives were met, with participating troops exhibiting high professional standards.
The closing ceremony, held on 9 August, was attended by Pakistan’s Defence Attaché to Tajikistan, Colonel Muhammad Muazzam Zafar, along with senior Tajik military officials.“Dosti-II” aimed to further consolidate longstanding military ties between the two countries while refining tactical procedures and enhancing interoperability in counter-terrorism operations.
