Complaint filed against Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh for obscene gestures

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has filed a formal complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) against India’s Arshdeep Singh for making extremely obscene gestures during the high-voltage Pakistan-India clash on September 21.

According to sources, the PCB has demanded that the ICC initiate action against Arshdeep for his conduct at the end of the match. The complaint alleges that the Indian pacer violated the ICC Code of Conduct by making immoral gestures towards spectators.

Officials said such behaviour not only breaches the rules but also tarnishes the reputation of the game on the international stage.

In a statement, the PCB emphasized that Arshdeep’s actions had brought cricket into disrepute. The board has urged the ICC to impose strict action in line with disciplinary procedures for players who violate the Code of Conduct.

This complaint comes shortly after the PCB also raised concerns against Suryakumar Yadav for his on-field behaviour earlier in the same tournament.

On Sept 26, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav was fined 30% of his match fees after being found guilty of breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during his post-match conference after the Pakistan-India clash on September 14.

Suryakumar’s plea of not guilty was rejected by match referee Richie Richardson. The PCB had submitted a complaint to the ICC over Suryakumar’s post-match comments on September 14. In the complaint, the PCB highlighted that he dedicated the win to India’s armed forces. He later clarified that the dedication was to personnel involved in a military operation in May.

The PCB requested the ICC to impose a Level 4 sanction, citing prior examples where political messaging by players had been penalised. The complaint referenced incidents where the ICC disallowed slogans or messages relating to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, including a case involving Usman Khawaja.
