ISLAMABAD: A formal complaint has been submitted to the Supreme Judicial Council against Islamabad High Court Judge Justice Muhammad Asif, requesting an investigation and his possible removal from the bench.
The complaint was filed by retired Colonel and lawyer Inam-ur-Rahim, who accused the judge of serious misconduct. It pertains to an incident in which two girls lost their lives after being struck by a vehicle driven by the judge’s son.
According to the complaint, Justice Asif’s 16-year-old son, Abuzar, was operating a non-customs-paid vehicle at the time of the accident. The filer further alleges that Justice Asif allegedly used his influence and state machinery to sway the victims’ families and pressure them.
It was claimed that the accused was granted bail after the victims’ heirs’ statements were secretly recorded, raising questions about the transparency of the process. The petitioner emphasized that judges are expected to uphold high moral standards and integrity.
The complaint also states that rather than expressing sympathy for the victims’ families, Justice Muhammad Asif allegedly relied on pressure tactics involving government officials, which is seen as a violation of judicial ethics.
The Supreme Judicial Council has not yet initiated proceedings regarding the complaint.
