WEB DESK: Australia’s dynamic right-handed opener, Matthew Short, has been sidelined from the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025, just before their crucial semi-final showdown against the unbeaten Indian team.
He picked up the injury while fielding during the match, and was visibly in discomfort during his brief knock of 15-ball 20 before being dismissed by Azmatullah Omarzai.
The ICC’s Event Technical Committee has granted approval for Connolly’s inclusion, as the left-handed batsman has participated in three ODIs for Australia.
Connolly, who is a 21-year-old left-handed batter and left-arm spinner, has been a traveling reserve with the team and is available for immediate selection.
The change occurs as Australia prepares to face off against Rohit Sharma’s team in the first semi-final of the 2025 Champions Trophy, scheduled for tomorrow, March 4 (Tuesday), at the Dubai International Stadium.
The Australian side, having secured three wins in the tournament, was the first team to reach the knockout stage after their encounter with Afghanistan in Lahore was canceled due to rain.
