Islamabad: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja on Thursday responded back on President letter seeking meeting to fix general elections date, 00decided that there is no need of any meeting with the President.
The CEC chaired an important meeting convened to consider the letter of the President. The letter wrote to the President reads that after an ammendment in the election act 2017, the ECP has responsible to give the general election date.
The ECP leagal team apprised the participants that there is no need of consultation with the President on the election schedule under the election act.
President had invited the CEC Sikandar Sultan Raja to fix the general elections date through his letter yesterday. While the CEC in his letter wrote that after the amendment in the election act the ECP has an authority to give date of general elections.
The CEC said that The President had dissolved the National Assembly on the advice of premier on August 9.
He apprised that the election act section 57 was ammended on June 26.
He said that it was honour to take guidance from the President on the national matter.
