Contempt Of Court: Talal To Appear Before Apex Court Today

Islamabad (February 13, 2018): Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) leader and state minister Talal Chaudhry will appear before Supreme court today, in contempt of court case over his anti-judiciary speeches.

Earlier on February 6, the SC had rejected Talal Chaudhry’s appeal seeking time for three weeks to hire lawyer in contempt of court case against him.

According to the details, Minister of State for Interior Affairs Talal Chaudhry asked the Supreme Court for three weeks to finalise legal representation in the contempt of court initiated against him.

During the hearing headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal, the three-member bench asked Talal Chaudhry how much time he requires to appoint a lawyer over which, he said that he needs three weeks for this as counsels are busy.

The court issued show cause notice to PML-N leader and adjourned the hearing till February 13.

Earlier, Chaudhry arrived in court along with senior party leaders, including Senator Pervaiz Rasheed and state minister Tariq Fazl Chaudhry, to appear before a three-member bench, headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan and comprising Justices Maqbool Baqar and Faisal Arab.The apex court initiated contempt proceedings against Chaudhry on account of “derogatory and contemptuous speeches/statements” with regard to the honourable court, read a notification issued on February 2.

It is to be mentioned here that suo moto notice was taken after Talal denigrated Panama Case verdict on myriad occasions.
