Islamabad (May 10, 2017): Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday issued notice to Chairman, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra), Absar Alam on a petition seeking contempt of court proceeding against Absar.
Former secretary of IHC Bar Association Waqas Malik Advocate has filed the against chairman Pemra. The petitioner argues that Absar Alam during a press conference attempt to cast aspersion on court saying court are performing works that Pemra is suppose to perform.
He further said that Chairman Pemra had leveled baseless allegations against courts. The petitioner pleaded IHC to initiate contempt of court proceedings against chairman Pemra.
An IHC bench heard the petition on Wednesday. Hearing preliminary arguments of the petitioner counsel the court issued notice to Chairman Pemra. The court also sought CD of Chairman Pemra’s press conference from Director General Pemra.
The court adjourned further hearing of the petition by May 16, 2017.
It is to be mentioned here that the petitioner had also blamed chairman Pemra of committing treason. He further pleaded the court to order Article 6 proceeding against Absar Alam.
