PESHAWAR: A police constable and his young son were martyred in a terrorist assault in Khyber District on Thursday, officials confirmed.
District Police Officer Waqar Ahmed said the attackers opened fire outside a hujra in the Sultan Khel area, targeting Constable Safeer Khan and his seven-year-old son, Muhammad Talha. Both sustained critical injuries and were rushed to Hayatabad Medical Complex, where the child succumbed to his wounds. The constable also embraced martyrdom shortly afterward.
Police have registered a case against unidentified assailants at Landi Kotal Police Station and launched an investigation. Funeral prayers for the father and son were offered in their native village of Sultan Khel, where grieving residents gathered to pay their respects.
Three Brothers Abducted, Two Found Dead in Bannu
In a separate incident in Bannu, three brothers employed in government service were abducted by armed militants on Wednesday night.
Police said the incident took place in the Sokari Hassan Khel area within the jurisdiction of Cantt Police Station Bannu. The brothers were offering Isha and Taraweeh prayers at a mosque when around a dozen gunmen stormed the premises and forcibly took them away.
Authorities reported that the attackers disregarded the sanctity of the mosque and the ongoing prayers, whisking the victims to an undisclosed location. Later, the bodies of two brothers were recovered from a roadside, bearing signs of brutal violence. The third brother remains missing, and search efforts are underway.
Security forces have initiated investigations into both incidents as tension grips the affected areas.
