COP29 kicks Off in Baku, global leaders converge to tackle climate crisis

Web desk: 29th UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) is taking place from November 11 to 22 in Baku, Azerbaijan, bringing global attention to urgent issues surrounding climate finance.

Azerbaijan is committed to developing its renewable energy potential, which is an important part of the country’s plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2050.

The country intends to increase renewable power capacity to 30% by 2030 and diversify its existing energy system to become a leader in green energy.

Azerbaijan is committed to leading by example and will update its national targets in its next 1.5-aligned Nationally Determined Contribution.

Pakistan is on 5th rank the countries which affected by climate change. And its only contributes only about 0.88% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions.

197 countries are going to attend this conference. Total twenty eight conferences have been held in the last thirty years.

The first cop was held in 1995 in Berlin, Germany. Since then, the conference has been held every year continuously, which was interrupted due to Covid in 2019 and 2020.
