Court seeks comments from Interior Ministry regarding Musharraf’s red warrant

ISLAMABAD: A district and session court on Wednesday sought comments from Interior Ministry over issuance of red warrant for former military ruler General Musharraf in Ghazi Abdul Rashid murder case.

Additional District and Session Judge Pervaiz Qadir Memon heard Ghazi murder case against Gen Musharraf.

During the hearing Musharraf’s counsel Akhtar Shah took the plea that as a citizen of Pakistan his client was entitled to security. He questioned the grounds on the basis of which his red warrant would be issued.

He added that article 9 of the constitution guarantee the security of life and property of every citizen.

He added that when order to declare Musharraf as proclaimed offender was issued his client was not in Pakistan. As a citizen of this country his client should be treated equally.

He pleaded the court to listen first to him before giving any decision. He added that there was nothing on record against Musharraf and the case was wrong.

Counsel of Lal Masjid Tariq Asad said that if Musharraf had any schedule to return to the country it should be shared with the court. Upon this, Akhtar Shah told the court that Musharraf would return within four to five weeks.

The court while seeking comments from Interior Ministry over issuance of red warrant for Musharraf adjourned hearing of the case till Feb 22, 2017.
