Cricket Australia admitted its mistake in not inviting Sunil Gavaskar to the closing ceremony.

Sydney: Cricket Australia has has accepted its oversight in not inviting legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar to the closing ceremony.

According to the sources, Sunil Gavaskar was not invited on stage to hand over the trophy to Australian captain Pat Cummins. The trophy was presented by former Australian captain Alan Border.

Sunil Gavaskar was criticised for not being invited despite his presence at the Sydney Cricket Ground, but Cricket Australia has now admitted that the two former captains should have been present when the trophy was handed over.

Both the former captains should have been present when presenting the trophy, said Cricket Australia

According to Cricket Australia, the cricket board had decided a long time ago that if Australia won the Allan Board trophy, if India won the Boarder Gavaskar trophy, Sunil would give the Gavaskar trophy.

Cricket Australia spokesperson said in his statement that, we admit that it would have been better if Alan Border and Sunil Gavaskar were on stage, Sunil Gavaskar also felt uncalled for on stage.
