CTD arrrests a significant ‘terrorist’ figure in Panjgur, captures cache of weapons

ISLAMABAD: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) successfully arrested a key terrorist linked to the banned BYC in Panjgur, recovering a substantial stockpile of weapons, officials announced.

The intelligence-based operation led to the capture of Sajid Ahmed, a central BYC operative. CTD DIG Aizaz Goraya stated that the suspect was smuggling weapons from Panjgur to Turbat, and his arrest has thwarted a potential major threat in the area.

Officials disclosed that the detained suspect was involved in creating and distributing extremist propaganda for BYC, influencing Baloch youth to join the group. Authorities expressed concern over educated individuals, including Sajid Ahmed, a graduate of the Islamic University of Islamabad, being drawn into extremist networks. Investigations are ongoing to identify his associates.

The Balochistan additional chief secretary (home) noted a province-wide decline in terrorism incidents, with over 730 anti-terrorism operations conducted last year. Police presence has reportedly increased to ensure security.

Other operations have led to three additional arrests, including a suspect involved in police surveillance and two individuals linked to BYC. Officials highlighted BYC’s exploitation of students and ransom networks to fund its activities, warning of their impact on social stability.

Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to eliminating terrorist groups like BYC and Fitna-ul-Hindustan, pledging continued operations until peace is restored in Balochistan.
