ISLAMABAD: In today’s session of the National Assembly, it was revealed that the government has initiated steps to release additional spectrum, with the spectrum auction set to take place in the coming months.
Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, responded to a question during the Question Hour, stating that the Frequency Allocation Board has made available 567 MHz of additional spectrum across various bands, including 700, 1800, 2100, 2300, 2600, and 3500 MHz. This represents more than a 200% increase in the existing spectrum.
She also shared that Pakistan’s cellular network has seen significant growth, with mobile subscribers now totaling 193.4 million, reflecting an impressive average data usage of 8.5 GB per subscriber per month.
In response to a separate question, Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Musadik Masood Malik, highlighted that the recent reduction in electricity prices is expected to boost exports, generate job opportunities, and stimulate the industrial sector.
Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, informed the House that the country’s cybercrime agency is actively working to combat online financial fraud. He revealed that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has processed and is in the process of blocking 604 URLs related to financial fraud.
