ISLAMABAD: A gas cylinder explosion in the basement canteen of the Supreme Court left 12 people injured on Tuesday. The powerful blast reverberated throughout the entire building, triggering an immediate response from rescue and security teams.
The injured were swiftly taken to a nearby hospital for medical care, with one individual reported to be in critical condition. The Bomb Disposal Squad also arrived at the site to gather evidence and investigate the cause of the explosion.
The blast caused significant damage, including broken furniture in the canteen, shattered glass at the Bar Association’s reception area, and structural impacts on Courtroom No. 6. At the time of the incident, Justice Ali Baqar Najafi and Justice Malik Shahzad were presiding over a case.
Rescue officials indicated that the explosion occurred during maintenance work on an air-conditioning gas plant, leading to tremors across the building. In response, lawyers and court staff quickly evacuated to safe zones outside the Supreme Court premises.
