Dar Assets Ref: Co-Accused Exempted From Proceeding

Islamabad (April 25, 2018): The accountability court on Wednesday gave exemption from the hearing to the former National Bank President Saeed Ahmed, a co-accused in a case against former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar over making assets beyond known income means.

The case proceedings on Wednesday began with judge Muhammad Bashir, who is also hearing NAB references against Sharif family at the courtroom-I of the accountability court Islamabad, in the chair.The judge asked as to where was the co-accused Saeed Ahmed. To this, the counsel sought for exemption of his client as he was busy in an executive council meeting.

The judge granted exemption to the co-accused and directed NAB prosecutor to present witness to record statement in the case. The witness, Abdul Rehman Gondal-a bank employee, recorded his statement and was cross examined by the accused counsel.

The witness presented the account opening letter and other details of the account of the former finance minister.  Another witness, Muhammad Azeem, also recorded his statement. It is pertinent to mention here that there are three witnesses in the case including including director National Assembly Sher Dil Khan, bank officer Muhammad Azeem, and Abdul Rehman Gondal of another bank.

In last hearing of the case on April 19, the court adjourned the hearing for April 25 on a plea from assistant counsel of the co-accused.

The assistant counsel informed that the counsel of the former NBP President Hashmat Habib was admitted to the hospital and therefore the testimonies of the witnesses be recorded in next hearing.

The judge asked as to over which disease, he was shifted to the hospital to which it was informed that his sugar level has reached to an extreme level of 500. “Is he suffering from the disease from the past or this case had made it happen,” the judge Muhammad Bashir remarked.

The judge later accepted the adjournment plea and court proceeding was adjourned for April 25.

It is pertinent to mention here that the accountability court indicted three co-accused in a reference filed by NAB against Ishaq Dar over assets beyond known means of income on April 05.
