Dar calls for Immediate ceasefire in Gaza during UN security council debate

WEB DESK: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar spearheaded the United Nations Security Council’s quarterly discussion on “The Middle East Situation and the Palestinian Issue,” emphasizing the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza. The meeting took place on July 23, 2025, with Dar delivering a powerful speech while representing Pakistan’s presidency of the Council.

During the session, Ishaq Dar urged the international community to act swiftly to address the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza. He condemned the intentional targeting of hospitals, educational institutions, refugee camps, and UN facilities, describing such actions as violations of international law and UN resolutions.

Expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people, Dar insisted that the Gaza ceasefire must be immediate, sustainable, and unequivocal. He also stressed the importance of allowing unrestricted humanitarian aid to reach those affected by the conflict.“Indiscriminate punishment and forced expulsions are grave breaches of international law,” Dar declared, calling on the Security Council to uphold its responsibility to protect civilians and restore peace in the region.

Furthermore, Dar emphasized the necessity of renewed global support for UNRWA, the UN agency aiding Palestinian refugees, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s backing for a two-state solution as the only viable path to lasting stability.

Addressing regional instability, Dar highlighted the need for peaceful resolutions to conflicts in Syria, Lebanon, and Iran, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to promoting political stability across the Middle East.In his appeal, Dar acknowledged that the Palestinian issue remains a crucial test of the UN’s credibility and urged the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to take a leading role in Gaza’s reconstruction efforts.

He reiterated that justice, dignity, freedom, and a sovereign Palestinian state are essential for achieving enduring peace in the region.

Throughout his speech, Dar focused on the urgent need for a Gaza ceasefire and the importance of Palestinian statehood, underscoring Pakistan’s ongoing commitment to international diplomacy and human rights advocacy.
