Dar to visit U.S. next week for high-level UN and diplomatic engagements

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar is set to visit the United States next week, where he will represent Pakistan at key events hosted by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in New York and engage in high-level meetings in Washington.

In New York, Dar will chair a high-profile open debate themed “Promoting International Peace and Security through Multilateralism and Peaceful Settlement of Disputes.” The discussion, organized under Pakistan’s presidency of the UNSC, is aimed at reinforcing global multilateral frameworks and emphasizing diplomacy and dialogue in conflict resolution, according to the Foreign Office.

As part of his role, the Deputy Prime Minister will lead the Council’s regular Quarterly Open Debate on the Situation in the Middle East, which includes deliberations on the Palestinian issue. He will also oversee a high-level briefing focused on strengthening collaboration between the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). This reflects Pakistan’s ongoing push to deepen partnerships between international and Islamic bodies for global peace and security.

Further underlining Pakistan’s longstanding position on Palestine, Dar is scheduled to participate in an international conference dedicated to advancing a peaceful resolution to the conflict and reaffirming the Two-State Solution.

In addition to the UNSC events, Dar will meet with several foreign ministers and top UN officials for bilateral discussions, reinforcing Pakistan’s proactive role in international diplomacy.

Ahead of this visit, Pakistan took a noteworthy step by formally nominating former U.S. President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. The nomination cites Trump’s involvement in easing tensions between Pakistan and India, as well as his role in raising global awareness about the Kashmir dispute. The nomination letter, signed by Dar, was submitted to the Nobel Committee in Norway.
