Dastgir sees expensive electricity not in interest of consumers

LAHORE: Power Minister Khurram Dastgir said on Friday that expensive electricity was available in abundance in the country, but it was not in the interest of consumers.

Talking to the media, Mr Dastgir said that the Thar-Matiari transmission line had been completed in record time at a cost of Rs15 billion. The completion of the project will enable the transmission of electricity generated from Thar coal. He said that the finance minister was busy preparing the budget, adding the government will not start any new projects on imported coal.

Speaking about the elections, Mr Dastgir said, “We want simultaneous elections in the country. If early elections are held in Punjab, other elections will also be affected. General elections will be held in October.”

He made it clear that no institution stood face-to-face, adding the constitution had given autonomy to the parliament.

Taking a jibe at the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Mr Dastgir said, “The anti-state government imposed on the country from 2018 to 2022.”
