Web Desk (December 06, 2018): Aziz Mian, who represented Pakistan and set a benchmark of taking Qawwali to another level all across the world, is being remembered today on his 18th death anniversary.
Aziz Mian is one of those Qawwali legends who did justice to the art of Qawwali. Aziz Mian Qawwal was born on April 17, 1942 in New Delhi and moved to Lahore with his family after the Indo-Pak separation. 
He learnt the art of Qawwali from his mentor Abdul Waheed and did an MA in Urdu, Arabic and Persian from Punjab University and was known to be one of the most educated artists.
His birth name was Abdul Aziz. Although, Mian was a catchphrase, as he was known by his name Aziz Mian.
Qawwalis he sang include, ‘Main Sharabi’, ‘Teri Soorat’, ‘Allah He Jane Kaun Bashar Hai’ and many more, which are still listened and praised by Qawwali fans, in present times.
Aziz Mian performed in various countries other than Pakistan. He got fame worldwide after performing in front of Iranian King Raza Shah Pehelwi. He wrote most of his qawwalis by himself. Moreover, he did full justice to Allama Iqbal and Qateel Shafai’s writing as well.
Being one of the greatest music maestros, he was awarded with the Pride of Performance award by the Government of Pakistan.
He was diagnosed with Hepatitis in 2000. He continued Qawwali despite doctors’ prohibition.
Same year, Aziz Mian went to Tehran on the invitation of Iranian Government, where he passed away just before his performance at the age of 58. He got buried in Multan after bringing his body back to the homeland.
