Web Desk: 49th death anniversary of legendary classical singer Ustad Amanat Ali Khan is being observed on Wednesday.
The Chand Meri Zameen Singer was born in 1922 in Hoshiarpur, in Indian Punjab.
He was the grandson of Ali Baksh Jarnail, who was the founder of the Patiala Gharana.
However, after the creation of Pakistan, Khan’s family migrated to Lahore in 1948 . Following in their tracks, Ustad Amanat learnt the art of music from his elders.
Amanat Ali Khan was master of three genres of music namely ghazal, raga and thumri.
Ghazals sung by him including “Insha Ji Utho Ab Kuch Karo”, “Honton Pe Kabhi Unke Mera Naam”, “Mora Jiya Na Lagay” and many others still mesmerize the listeners.
He was awarded ‘Pride of Performance’ by the government of Pakistan.
He died this day in 1974 and is buried in Lahore.
