WEB DESK: Iran has been at the center of a devastating conflict that erupted on February 28, when United States and Israel launched strikes, prompting Iranian retaliatory attacks on Israel, U.S. bases, Gulf states, and opening a new front in Lebanon.
According to US-based rights organization HRANA, at least 3,300 people have died in Iran since the start of the conflict, including 1,464 civilians and a minimum of 217 children. The group’s figures are compiled from field reports, local contacts, medical sources, civil society networks, and public records. Iran’s ambassador to the UN reported that around 1,500 civilians have been killed in US-Israeli airstrikes alone.
Some casualties may include 104 individuals lost when a US strike targeted an Iranian warship off Sri Lanka on March 4.
In Lebanon, Israeli airstrikes have claimed 1,094 lives since March 2, including at least 121 children.
Iraq has reported at least 88 fatalities, mostly members of Iran-backed Shi’ite Popular Mobilisation Forces. A recent strike on Kurdish Peshmerga in Erbil killed six, with the Peshmerga alleging Iranian responsibility. One foreign crew member also died in an attack on tankers near an Iraqi port.
Israel has suffered 16 deaths from Iranian missile attacks, while three soldiers were killed in southern Lebanon. An Israeli farmer died due to friendly fire near the Lebanese border, and a woman was killed in northern Israel following missile strikes.
In the United States, 13 service members have died—six in a military refueling aircraft crash over Iraq and seven in combat operations against Iran.
Across the Gulf, casualties include 10 in the United Arab Emirates, including two army personnel; seven in Qatar, four of whom were Qatari armed forces, one Turkish serviceman, and two technicians; and six in Kuwait, including military and interior ministry staff.
In the West Bank, four Palestinian women were killed in an Iranian missile strike. Southern Syria also reported four deaths in Sweida.
Oman recorded two deaths in a drone strike on an industrial zone in Sohar province, marking the first fatalities in the country, which had been hosting mediation talks between the U.S. and Iran. Another death occurred earlier when a projectile struck a tanker off Muscat.
In Saudi Arabia, two civilians died after a projectile hit a residential area in Al-Kharj. Bahrain also saw two fatalities in separate Iranian attacks, including a Moroccan civilian contractor killed on March 24.
France reported one soldier killed and six wounded in a drone attack in northern Iraq while providing counter-terrorism training.
The conflict continues to escalate, with widespread casualties across the region and significant civilian suffering, particularly among children.
