Death toll owing to scorching heat in Mecca during Hajj climbs to 922, 35 Pakistanis among dead

Mecca: The number of deaths surmounted to 922 owing to sizzling heat during the Hajj in Mecca.

As many as 35 Pakistanis are included in the dead persons while six deaths reported in Madina Munawara.

The highest 600 pilgrims belonging to Egypt died due to scorching heat. More pilgrims belonged to Jordan, Iran, Iraq, Indonesia, Tunisia and Senegal are among the dead.

68 fatalities were from India, with the number set to rise further, the report noted citing an Asian diplomat.

The temperatures soared to 51.8 degrees Celsius in Mecca on Monday, making it extremely difficult for the approximately 1.8 million people, many elderly and frail, to participate in the days-long, predominantly outdoor pilgrimage

The arrival of Pakistani pilgrims will start from today.
