Dengue continues to claim lives in Karachi; 90 new cases reported in 24 hours

KARACHI: The dengue outbreak in Karachi persists, claiming two more lives and prompting the hospitalization of 90 new patients within the past 24 hours, according to the Director General (DG) of Health Sindh.

The DG Health Sindh has released an updated report detailing the current dengue situation across the province.In the latest data, 90 patients were admitted to government hospitals, while an additional 85 individuals sought treatment in private healthcare facilities across the city. Currently, 249 dengue patients are under treatment in government hospitals, with another 160 receiving care in private hospitals.

The Sindh health authorities have allocated 556 beds specifically for dengue patients in government hospitals, while private hospitals in Karachi have reserved 220 beds for such cases. In Hyderabad, 167 beds are designated for dengue patients in public hospitals, and private hospitals in the city have allocated 207 beds for treatment.

Furthermore, the health department reported that there are 38 laboratories actively conducting dengue tests in Karachi, alongside 19 laboratories operational in Hyderabad. Over the past 24 hours, a total of 4,598 dengue tests have been performed across the province, with 828 of these tests returning positive results.
