LAHORE: The total number of dengue virus cases crossed the 1,000 mark in Punjab after the province reported 44 new cases Monday morning, official data from the health department showed.
In its daily update on the dengue fever, the office of the Primary and Secondary Health Care Department spokesperson said that 12 of the new cases were reported from Lahore, 18 from Rawalpindi, four from Attock, three from Vehari and one each from Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Chakwal, Jhang, Multan, Khanewal and Okara.
Dengue prevention activities have been intensified across Punjab on the instructions of Health Secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch.
Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar in this connection has called a meeting.
On the other hand, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has reported fresh 110 cases of dengue fever during the past 24 hours,
According to the Khyber Teaching Hospital, as many as 879 tests were conducted to detect dengue fever over the past 24 hours.
Out of 879 tests, 110 remained positive, while 769 were negative. The hospital administration said that majority of the infected persons are residents of Peshawar. Currently, 22 patients are under treatment at the Khyber Teaching Hospital, said the authorities.
According to sources, delay in fumigation by the administration resulted in an upsurge in dengue patients this season.
