District govt imposed section 144 in Islamabad ahead of PTI’s rally

ISLAMABAD: The district administration announced that section 144 has been imposed across the federal capital, placing a temporary ban on all forms of public gathering, rallies and protests in Islamabad.

As per administration authorities, no protest, demonstration or assembly is permitted while the order remains in effect, the order came shortly before a political rally by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf.

In a statement, the district administration warned that the law will be enforced immediately in case of any violation. “If any illegal activity is carried out, action will be taken without delay,” the announcement said.

Citizens have been told not to participate in any unlawful gatherings or activities, with authorities emphasizing that cooperation is essential to ensure peace and security in the capital. The administration has not specified how long the restrictions will remain in place.

Meanwhile, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) issued a significant ruling against the misuse of government machinery by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government. The court ordered that no government vehicles, equipment, or staff may be used in protests, marches, or political rallies, declaring such unauthorized use as corruption and abuse of authority.

The PHC emphasized the need for complete governmental impartiality in political activities and strictly barred government officials and employees from involvement in political events. The court said the political use of state resources violates fundamental rights and is unacceptable, imposing a complete ban on the

use of government property in political gatherings.

With this decision, the court has effectively closed the door on any political use of government resources, directing authorities to ensure their proper and lawful use.
