Donald Trump Avoids Jail in Hush Money Case, Crime Remains on Record

NEW YORK: Newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump has successfully avoided a jail sentence in the hush money case, but the conviction for his crime remains on record.

In a New York criminal court, a hearing was held to determine Trump’s punishment. The judge ruled that Trump would not face imprisonment or a fine, but ordered that the crime of paying to silence the issue be officially recorded on his criminal record.

As a result of this ruling, Trump will become the first president in U.S. history to assume office with a criminal record.

It is important to note that in May of the previous year, a U.S. court found the allegations against Trump, concerning payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels, to be valid, leading to his conviction.

Trump faced 34 charges related to the $130,000 payment made to Daniels. The jury upheld all 34 charges, which alleged that Trump had a sexual affair with Daniels and paid her off in 2016 to prevent the scandal from affecting his presidential campaign, ultimately helping him win the election.

The sentencing hearing, initially set for July 11, 2024, has been delayed multiple times.
